Why Airplane Windows Are Always Round?

From the early years researches are being conducted on the shape of airplane. Lots of time it has been changed due to security concern. Windows are one of the key areas where changes had been done to avoid disaster and make plane journey safer.

Until early 50’s the shape of airplane windows was rectangular. In 1953 a terrible accident took 56 lives on board. While investigating the incident, the aero-engineers found out, the rectangular shape of the windows was the reason for the disaster. But how?

The rectangular window has four corners. The pressure of air fall mostly on these four areas rather than the edges and middle portion. The corners can’t bear the immense pressure. As a result, it breaks and lead to an accident. But when it is rounded or oval shaped, the pressure falls equally everywhere letting none to carry the most. Thus it becomes safer for the craft and the passengers.
