After engaging in one by one successful initiatives, Facebook is now planning to start it’s own television journey. In June this year, the popular social network will start it’s own tv service by telecasting 2 dozen programs.
The speculation was in the air since last December that along with the game contents of Amazon, Hulu and Netflix, this time Facebook will start to deliver some other programs too. Now citing several sources, tech website Business Insider is confirming that the rumor was a reality. Facebook is planning to broadcast two types of programs online. Big budget mega shows like drama series, talent hunts etc and tiny programs of 5-10 minutes. All these will be added in Facebook app’s video tag. Each day fresh new episodes will be aired. Talk shows, comedy shows etc will also be included in the list. Facebook has already recruited necessary number of crews for this project.
The goal of this new feature is to increase Facebook’s share and position in global internet. Being a website of 2 billion users, now it wants to compete with other giants like Amazon, YouTube. Because it knows very well it would be hard to survive if it fails in innovation and in attracting young generation with fresher ideas. The scope of earning huge revenues from advertisements also motivated team Zuckerberg to start television venture.
Facebook will possibly launch it’s new journey at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, known as world’s largest advertising gathering scheduled to start from 17 June.
